2016 Piñata People Gamay
This wine booms out of the glass. It has an aromatic profile that is wild and alluring. It’s a wine that allows for occasion to flow, encouraging impulse and frivolity. The Piñata People Gamay is all about the merriment of spring and the celebration of our endless summers.
The nose tells a complex tale; initially freshly shelled peanuts. The red skin of the nut works in with a gentle roastiness and slight peatiness. There is intrigue of chopped coriander stalk, silverbeet or wild nettle pie. The palate is light and soft; it has a gentle flavour of stewed strawberries accentuated with mountain pepper.
This wine can command intense contemplation as an opener for a decadent meal or enjoy with less serious fare, like a picnic on the beach. Black olive wrapped in prosciutto aside tangy mettwurst and salami, a wedge of washed rind cheese and slices of pear. Char grilled quail, eggplant or summer veggies rustically cooked on the BBQ. Enjoy the pink haze of a late summer evening and watch the sun sink to the west, no one wanting to go home…. it’s just too much fun.
