2020 Mourvèdre

2020  Mourvèdre

The 2020 Mourvèdre is lifted and aromatic. Delicate scents of elderflowers, violets and fresh raspberries warmed in the morning sun are balanced with the deeper aromas of mixed spice and toasted pine nuts.

This fresh, medium bodied wine has plush tannins and lively acidity. On the palate there is mulberry, raspberry and white pepper. The winemakers have focused on finding the balance between the spiced notes typical of this variety, and the abundant red fruit flavours to make a lively wine, full of intrigue.

Pair this with a decent wedge of balsamic Bellavitano cheese, a handful of muscatels and a crusty loaf of artisanal bread.

Medium to full red/purple colour, with a rich, melted chocolate and roasting-meat bouquet that translates to a silky-smooth textured palate which is fleshy and rich, deep and gently flowing. Full-bodied and supple, a delicious red wine, drinking well now and should take some age well. 92 points.

While grenache is the motherlode of the region, this address has considerable success with mourvèdre, a late ripener auguring well across a climate challenged further. A wonderful grape, to boot! Ferrous. White pepper, cardamon, leather, tobacco leaf, green olive tapenade and salumi. I feel it could've been picked a degree or so riper (rather than on acidity), but delicious all the same. Time may prove me wrong. 93 points.
